Currently Watching: Well, it’s September, which means the beginning of the month is always documentary heavy. Every year there’s a fresh new batch of 9/11 documentaries that I like to watch. The husband hates them (too sad) so typically I have to spread these out over many days. There was one I watched this year called 15 Septembers Later that was VERY good.
Also soaked in the whole John McCain funeral. It all felt very historic and important while I watched. I liked all the pomp and circumstance. Being a person interested in ritual and ceremony of this kind, and the different ways people process death, seeing all of it from start to finish was very intriguing. I bawled non-stop during the eulogies….and I wasn’t even a huge McCain fan. He just seemed like such a straight-forward, likable, non-jerkface guy.
I got my hands on For Whom the Bell Tolls, which is the documentary that HBO did about McCain and it is VERY good. If you have any interest in political history I highly recommend it.
Currently Spinning: Oh man, I haven’t been listening to music lately AT ALL, which is a bummer. But I got majorly hooked on podcasts as of late and The Babysitters Club Club has been my JAM for the past few weeks. Its humor is RIGHT up my alley and I’ve found myself having to pull the car over to catch my breath from laughing a few times.
Currently Reading: I just finished up the book Love and Trouble by Claire Dederer, which was excellent. I had been wanting to read it for a long time. Its a memoir heavily set in the early 90s in Seattle, so….you know….my thing. My old, childhood dream.
I chopped all my hair off. Well, just to right below my ears so at least 6 inches or so. Easier to maintain. I like easy.
I’ve been having some MAJOR skin issues pretty much ALL summer. If anything I’ll be so relieved when colder weather comes and I can cover it up. First came the sun exposure. I have to admit I don’t ALWAYS wear sunscreen when I should, so being outside in the sun causes my melasma (pregnancy mask) that I acquired with Molly and then Bridget to flare up. So, basically, I have big tan BLOTCH on my forehead. You can’t really cover it well and they don’t go away really so I’m stuck with it. It’s my kid-havin’ battle scar.
Then, the mosquitoes. Those little buggers LOVE me and I collect various marks from their “love” all summer. Right now, my right arm is dotted with old and new bites AND various “scars”. It’s awful.
THEN I started on a new medication which I was apparently allergic to and developed this big allergy rash.
So, suffice it to say I’m one big dumpster fire mess skin-wise. Is winter here yet?
Kind of related, I went to my local Ulta to buy some makeup that would maybe, at the very least, even out my crappy skin tone. I am SO not a makeup person. I don’t know the first thing about applying it and my three girls are pretty much screwed in that department.
The Ulta lady decided to let me know EXACTLY how blotchy I was and I ended up spending WAY more than I intended to on makeup….that shit is EXPENSIVE. Why didn’t anyone tell me?
SCHOOL STARTED BACK. Yeah, I’m that mom. You’re not going to see me sobbing as my babies get on the bus and drive off to another year of classes and activities. Nope.
At least not until Bridgie goes. Then I will likely lose my mind over my baby leaving the nest.
Their new schedule is pretty awesome. Betty gets picked up a little after 7….Molly doesn’t get picked up until an hour later, so we’ve essentially eliminated morning sister fights about who is chewing loudly or who is "looking at me weird”.
They don’t get home until after 4….leaves a nice, long day for Mama and Bridgie to get stuff done!
The house is still coming along. We got our driveway, which was a big step in the right direction. Still no yard, but we have dirt. I’m told this is good. Dirt is coming at a premium. Who knew?
Have you guys BEEN to Target lately and seen the new clothes they have put out (for Juniors anyway)? Completely my whole wardrobe circa 1994. I should have kept all of my clothes. I have fond memories of some of the items I had in the 90s. Now it’s all coming back. I knew I was WAY ahead of my time.
Being that I’ve been delving back into the Babysitters Club books via the podcast, I decided to hop on Amazon and pick up a few Little Sister books for Molly. I hope she loves them as much as I did when I was little.
I have SUCH fond memories of Book World at the Beloit Mall. My grandma and I would take the city bus to the mall and she would get me the latest BSC book. Seeing a brand new one on the shelves was SO exciting!
My heart broke a little when I got too old for them, if I’m being honest. I wish I would have kept my whole collection.
Bridget has decided that she’s not about sleeping in her own bedroom. She’s ALL about sleeping in our bed though. Like clockwork….every night around 2 AM….she stumbles into the master bedroom and flings herself on the floor. I then have to get up, drag her into the bed and she spends the rest of the night “spinning” in a clockwise motion as she sleeps….effectively kicking both of us in the face and/or back as she goes. She sleeps like a ROCK but she is in constant motion. Like a shark.
I’m hoping it doesn’t become a habit, but I can’t say I hate the extra cuddles too much.
Did you SEE the full trailer for Mary Poppins Returns?!?!?!? I may have squeed. Squeeeed like a little excited girl. Lin with an English Cockney accent is just TOO.MUCH.
The husband and I will be going back to see Ghost TWICE in the next few months. They are returning to Milwaukee to finish the show that was cut short back in May (due to a death in the pit) and then coming to Madison for a full show. SUPER psyched!
Lots of “browser windows” open in my head lately, including a branding and website overhaul for Type A, a possible trip to Canada (PEI), and lots to consider with regards to 5 and 10 year plans.
I had applied for Grad School….but after sitting on it a bit and thinking it through, I’m not sure if that’s the right move for me yet. I have time to decide, I suppose. I don’t want to go after a grad degree just to have it, considering that’s $20,000 down the tubes if I don’t use it.
So yeah. Lots to consider.
On the Senior front, this has been Type A’s best year for seniors YET. We just keep growing year after year and I definitely have perseverance and continuing to get my name out there to thank. Oh, and all the wonderful referrals, for sure!
The season IS winding down but I have a handful of dates left I could give to folks.
2019 Wedding season is booking fast and furious. There have been some stand out popular dates and I’m already 1/2 booked for the year. If you’re looking for some wonderfully UNCOMMON wedding photography, I got ya, fam. Right here.
This month? Shooting, editing. Shooting, editing. Shooting, editing. That is my life in the fall. I wouldn’t have it any other way, honestly. I’m settling into it for sure (after, oh, only 10 years)
